Happy Year of the Metal Rat! Saturday 25th January marked the start of the two week celebration of Chinese New Year, let’s take a look at what the Year of the Rat is all about.
Chinese astrology is based on a 12 year cycle with a corresponding element (wind, fire, earth, water or metal) and an animal representing each year. 2020 is the year of the Metal Rat. The legend goes that being the smallest of the 12 animals the rat had to use his intelligence and agility to win the race to the Jade Emperor’s dinner and thus won first place in the 12 year cycle.
If you are expecting a baby in the Year of the Rat you can except a gentle, diligent and energetic little soul. People born in Rat years are social yet orderly creatures. They tend to be clever, quick thinkers; successful, but content with living a quiet and peaceful life.
Of the five elements in the Chinese zodiac — wood, fire, earth, metal and water — 2020’s element is metal. The metal element is associated with letting go of the old and bring in the new. The Rat, being the first sign of the 12 animals cycle in Chinese Astrology , is also considered a time of new beginnings. This coming year can been seen as a time of letting go of what no longer serves us, planning the future we want to see and making the changes necessary to make that future possible.
How will you harmonize with the new year? What plans will you put in place? Health wise, taking extra care of your Metal element organs, the Lung and Large Intestine is advisable. Adding our Chest Clear, Glow, Tummy Tonic or Immunity Healing Herb blends to your diet can help you with this! Gold, blue, green colours are lucky this year and the lucky flowers are Lilies.
